Skills Training

Empowering the Next Generation of Women

One of the most important things we do in Kenya is educate the next generation. At Neema Girls Project, we focus on skills training and education for young women who often believe their only option is working in tea fields.

Many of these young women come from single-parent households and cannot afford school. In Kenya, boys are often prioritized over girls when it comes to education, and as a result, many girls are left behind. Those who aren't educated frequently end up in tea fields, where they face harsh working conditions and a high risk of sexual violence.

Neema Girls Project empowers young women—ages 12 to 24—by providing access to education and practical skills training such as beadwork, baking, and sewing. Some participants have not finished high school, so we bring in a tutor regularly, and older girls help teach the younger ones. Through this support, we help them build a better future and break the cycle of poverty and exploitation.

Bead Work

The girls are given lessons on beading to handcraft necklaces, bracelets and more. Beading requires dedication to process in order to see progress and builds patience.

Baking

The girls spend time learning how to make cookies, cakes, and pastries. Baking not only teaches basic culinary skills, but also enhances creativity, fosters teamwork, and attention to detail.

Sewing

The girls take sewing lessons to learn essential stitching skills and create original pieces. Sewing also builds hand-eye coordination, sparks creativity, and gives them a strong sense of accomplishment.

The girls in our program love to sing praise! Whether they are sewing, baking, or doing school work, you can always hear worship in the home.
